Nigeria’s D’Tigress got their 2021 AfroBasket to a perfect start after beating Mozambique in their opening Group B in Yaounde, Cameroon on Saturday night.
After a cagey opening contest, D’Tigress eventually emerged winners with 67 points to Mozambique’s 50.
The Nigerian team lost the opening two quarters 11-12 and 18-21 respectively before rallying back to take the third quarter 24-9 and the fourth quarter 14-8 for a blowout win.
Their second group game comes up against Angola later on Sunday.
The 2021 AfroBasket Women is the 25th edition of the tournament that kicked off from 17 and will end 26 September.
The top two teams will qualify for one of the qualifying tournaments for the 2022 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup.
