Vehicles submerged as downpour wreaks havoc in Ondo

Heavy downpour in Akokoland, Ondo State, has reportedly wreaked havoc in the communities as many vehicles were submerged.

The rain, which began at about 3pm Thursday, belted down until about 8.30pm, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake as trailers and big vehicles were all stranded.

Mostly affected by the flood was the area around a river that overflowed its banks.

A source who spoke on the matter said, “Where the flood did much havoc was a bridge at Agbaluku are of Ikare as water covered the bridge making it impassable for even motorcycles talking of vehicles.

“Many travellers decided to pass a night until the water will reduce early in the morning. But many vehicles were submerged.”

The Director of Environmental Services in Akoko North-West Local Government Area, Mrs Yemisi Adeniyi, warned people to desist from building houses close to river banks and those blocking waterways with refuse must stop it or face the wrath of the law.
