#TwitterBan: BBNaija Organisers ditch microblogging app for Facebook

Fans of the Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) reality TV show were left confused Saturday to observe that no update on the programme was uploaded to Twitter – their social media site of choice.

This is as the organisers appeared to have complied strictly with the Federal Government’s Twitter ban.

Nigeria on June 4 suspended the operations of the micro-blogging platform, Twitter in Nigeria, after deleting a tweet by the president, Muhammadu Buhari.

During the opening show on Saturday night, the host, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, only read comments from the reality show’s official Facebook page.

This came as a surprise to many BBNaija fans who, on Saturday night, flocked to the app using Virtual Private Network (VPN) applications to bypass restrictions to Twitter to trend various BBNaija hashtags on their favourite Housemates.

This year’s edition of BBNaija will run for 72 days and end on October 3, 2021.

Fans will be able to vote for their favourite Housemates for free on BBNaija’s official website and mobile app as well as on the MyDStv and MyGOtv apps.
