Twitter Deletes President Buhari’s Tweet After He Threatened Young Nigerians

Twitter has deleted the controversial tweet shared on President Buhari’s handle last night, in which he invoked the memories of the horror of the Biafran war on Nigerians.

In case you missed it: in response to the spate of insecurity in the southern parts of Nigeria, the President reminded the younger generation of the havoc his generation wreaked during the 1967-1970 war, adding that he won’t waste time to mete out similar horror on Nigerians, especially the younger generation.

“Many of those misbehaving today are too young to be aware of the destruction and loss of lives that occurred during the Nigerian Civil War. Those of us in the fields for 30 months, who went through the war, will treat them in the language they understand,” he tweeted.

This stirred heated reactions on social media, with majority of Nigerian accusing him of threatening Nigerians again with genocide, and so they reported his tweet en masse, resulting in its deletion this morning.

However, as though to flip the bird at Nigerians and at Twitter, the president’s handle retweeted a video in which he repeated the same threat.
