Tokyo 2020: Oborodudu becomes first Nigerian to win wrestling medal in Olympics

Blessing Oborududu entered the history books on Tuesday by becoming the first Nigerian wrestler to win a medal in the history of the Olympic Games.

The feisty female wrestler won a silver medal on Tuesday afternoon after losing 4-1 to Tamyra Mensah-Stock of the United States in the Women’s freestyle 68kg.

Oborududu becomes Nigeria’s second medalist at the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in Japan after Ese Brume won a bronze medal in the women’s long jump on Tuesday morning.

Nigeria’s chances of racking up medals was greatly diminished when 10 of the country’s athletes were disqualified at the start of the tournament for violating doping rules.
