Thierry Henry emerges shock candidate for Barca coach

Former Arsenal captain, Thierry Henry, is said to be in contention to take over as Barcelona manager.

The UK Mirror reports the Frenchman and former Barca star is being considered to replace Koeman long with favourite Xavi Hernandez, Belgium boss Roberto Martinez, Ajax manager Erik ten Hag and Marcelo Gallardo of River Plate.

Henry scored 49 times in three seasons for Barca in his playing days, winning the LaLiga title as well as the 2009 Champions League title.

Currently, Henry works as Martinez’s assistant, but has been surprisingly linked with the Camp Nou job.

His managerial career so far has been hugely disappointing with stints in charge of Monaco and Montreal Impact.

While he is a left-field choice, Barca’s near desperation means that those candidates may not be ruled out.

Meanwhile, it is understood that former star serge Barjuan will take over the reins on an interim basis.
