Tanzanian Writer Abdulrazak Gurnah Becomes Second Black African to Win Nobel Prize in Literature

Congratulations to Abdulrazak Gurnah!

The Tanzanian novelist has been awarded the 2021 Nobel Prize in Literature, making him the second black African to win the prize after Wole Soyinka.

The prestigious organization said they awarded the author of the Afterlives this honor “for his uncompromising and compassionate penetration of the effects of colonialism and the fate of the refugee in the gulf between cultures and continents.”
