Uche Kanu bagged a brace as the Super Falcons took a big step towards securing a place at the 2022 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations following a 2-0 win against eternal foes Black Queens of Ghana at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos on Wednesday.
The Super Falcons were ahead in the 20th minute with Kanu nodding home Francisca Ordega’s superb cross.
Kanu doubled Nigeria’s lead three minute later nodding home this time from a corner-kick.
Veteran defender Onome Ebi cleared the ball away from danger after Regina Otu gave the ball away cheapily on the half hour mark, while goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie produced a fine save to deny the visitors late in the first half.
The Black Queens dominated proceedings after the break but were unable to breach the Super Falcons defence.
Captain Asisat Oshoala missed the chance to increase Nigeria’s advantage in the 69th minute nodding wide from close range.
It was however of no consequence as the Super Falcons held on for the win.
