South African Artists to Begin Receiving Royalties from Social Media Platforms

Good news for South African artists as they are billed to begin to receive royalties from social media platforms.

The Southern African Music Rights Organisation (SAMRO) made this announcement recently through its chairperson, Nicholas Maweni.

Maweni noted that the organisation has entered into licensing agreements with TikTok, Facebook and Netflix that will benefit members.

It’s going to be a huge payday for the likes of Master KG who garnered over 1 billion views on TikTok alone for his ‘Jerusalema’ song.
