A soldier identified as Kila Jima, deployed to fight Boko Haram insurgents in the North-East has reportedly killed himself.
In the shocking incident that occurred Saturday, the soldier, a corporal in the Army’s 152 Battalion, Banki, was said to have suddenly cocked his rifle and shot himself in the head.
Sources say he had shown some sign of depression before he eventually ended his life.
His body has been deposited at the military mortuary in Maiduguri.
He joins a growing number of Nigerian servicemen to commit suicide in the course of the fight against the Jihadists.
Soldiers, especially those deployed in operation Lafiya Dole in the North East, have always complained about poor welfare.
This is amidst allegations of misappropriation by the top military brass.
