Smith Rowe winner lifts Arsenal to fifth

Emile Smith Rowe netted for the third successive Premier League game as Arsenal claimed a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Watford on Sunday.

The in-form Smith Rowe registered the 100th league goal of manager Mikel Arteta’s 100th match in charge with a low drive from outside the box in the 56th minute.

Gunners captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had a first-half penalty saved by Ben Foster following a poor challenge by Danny Rose on Alexandre Lacazette – and the Hornets goalkeeper produced another fine stop to keep out Gabriel’s header shortly before half-time following an in-swinging corner from Bukayo Saka.

The visitors struggled for rhythm and their task was made tougher as Juraj Kucka was dismissed for a second yellow card late on and defeat left Claudio Ranieri’s side 17th, two points above the drop.
