Nigerians were greeted with rude shock Saturday after the passing of music legend Sir Victor Uwaifo at the age of 80.
Armed with a ringing voice, an extravagant persona and his guitar, the Benin-born maestro swept through the hearts of his generation with timeless hits.
So huge was Sir Uwaifo’s influence, that his songs have an influence on today’s age of highlife, hip-life, trap beats and Afropop.
A strong vocalist and songwriter, Uwaifo was one of the few of his generation whose song was worth a remix by one of the best music icons out of Africa, Nigeria’s very own Innocent ‘TuFace’ Idibia.
As he inevitably joins the choir of angels in heaven, we go back memory lane to present 10 of his hit tracks that made our parents look back at the 60s and 70s with nostalgia.
- Guitar Boy
- Tupepe ft Tu Baba
- Monkey Yanga
