Teenager Bukayo Saka has been named Arsenal’s Player of the Season after his exploits at the North-London club.
It comes bare days after the 19-year-old scored his first England goal in a 1-0 win over Austria as the Three Lions prepare for Euro 2020 which begins next week.
Saka, also nominated for the PFA’s Young Player of the Season award which he lost to Manchester City’s Phil Foden, won 51 per cent of Arsenal fans votes to edge out Nicolas Pepe who secured for 15 per cent.
Speaking after his match-winning goal on Wednesday, Saka, who is of Nigerian descent, revealed he was nervous when first making the step up but is now feeling at home among England’s elite.
“Yes, maybe I did when I first came in,” he replied when asked if he felt star-struck being involved with England.
“But now I’ve met the lads, I am more familiar with them. Things are much easier and I feel more at home when I come to camp.
“The feeling of being selected for the Euros is already just amazing and then now to get my first goal is even better.”
