Heated reactions have trailed the appointment of young Ibrahim Mahrazu as Special Adviser on Children Development by the lawmaker representing Daura constituency, Hon. Nasir Yahya Daura.
The 17-year-old was said to be the speaker of the Children’s Parliament in Katsina State.
A statement from the office of the lawmaker revealed that his appointment was “based on the confidence in his capacity to deliver the rudiment of the office as Special Adviser”.
“We congratulate you on this great achievement and hope that you continue to render good services to Daura consistency,” the statement added
Katsina Post reported that the teenager had recently presided over a fourth plenary session held on Friday at the state’s House of Assembly Complex.
During the plenary session, the house in a unanimous decision called on the executive arm of government to without further delay roll out a working plan for the implementation of the Child Protection Law.
His appointment has however generated backlash on social media with many frowning at the move.
Reacting, one Husaini Audi Umar stated, “This is against Labour laws. Underage for public office.”
Bashir Yusuf Bash said, “There’s nothing like sense in this appointment. He’s underage. By the way what kind of advice will he expect from 17yrs old boy. Our lawmakers need money to buy sense.”
The lawmaker, however, was lauded by a handful of people who described his action as commendable.
One of such was Nas Muhammad who countered dissenting views, saying the young chap should be given a chance.
“He is the speaker of the States children’s Parliament. He has been advocating for the implementation of some rights of children,” he said.
Maybe in the end, age is just a number…
