Resident doctors call off strike

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has suspended its nationwide strike, which commenced on April 1.

NARD president, Dr. Uyilawa Okhuaihesuyi, confirmed this in a statement on Saturday night.

Dr Okhuaihesuyi however warned that the industrial action will resume in four weeks if government does not implement the articles on the Memorandum of Action agreed on by both parties.

The end of the strike comes a day after the Senate Committee on health summoned the NARD executive to its chambers, warning of consequences for their belligerence in light of the moves taken by government, through the Ministry of Labour, to meet the doctors’ demands.
