Regina King is set to continue with her directing streak with a new film, ‘Bitter Root’ which is in the works,
The Oscar winning director will produce the project along with Reina King via their Royal Ties banner.
Royal Ties Banner will join a producing team that includes Black Panther filmmaker Ryan Coogler, Zinzi Coogler, and Sev Ohanian, who are producing via their shingle, Proximity Media.
Bitter Root is a monster-filled, 1920s-set race-themed comic book adaptation created by David F. Walker, Sanford Greene and Chuck Brown, for Legendary Entertainment.
The film described as a sort of Get Out meets Blade, the Vampire Hunter is set in 1924 during the Harlem Renaissance and tells of the Sangeryes, a family of once-great monster hunters, who face an evil that descends upon New York.
Walker, Greene, Brown and Drapetomedia’s Sean Owolo will executive produce. Bryan Edward Hill, who is also working on a new Power Rangers movie, is currently rewriting the draft.
This isn’t King’s first sojourn into the world of comic books. She delivered an Emmy-winning performance in HBO’s Watchmen.
