Plateau Senator fumes over incessant herdsmen attacks on communities

Senator Dame Nora Daduut representing Plateau South Senatorial district has condemned unrelenting attacks on some communities in Plateau State by alleged herdsmen.

In a statement Tuesday, the lawmaker challenged security agents to immediate action, saying they should bring the situation under control.

She pointed out that communities in Bassa and Riyom Local Government Council Areas in Plateau North have been under siege by armed criminals, adding that all necessary measures be put in place to stop the deteriorating situation.

She said, the attackers should be made to pay for their heinous crimes, while describing the ugly development as unfortunate even as government has been doing all it could to maintain peace in the State.

“I call on security operatives to go after those attacking innocent villagers and they should be made to pay for their heinous actions.”

She lauded Governor Simon Lalong for his swift intervention in ensuring that the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and the Peace Building Agency (PBA) immediately moved to the affected communities to provide humanitarian assistance.

While sympathising with the victims, she called for calm and assured the people of government’s intervention.

Her statement comes with the capital, Jos, on the edge over fears of reprisal attacks by irate youths.

Residents scampered for safety Tuesday night as angry youths cordoned off the Gada Biu axis of the town and set two lorries ablaze.

The government has called for calm, saying security operatives are on top of the situation.
