Helen McCrory, star of Netflix’s Peaky Blinders has passed away at fifty two years of age after her battle with cancer.
Damian Lewis, husband to the British actress broke the news on Friday in a statement via Twitter.
“Heartbroken to announce that after an heroic battle with cancer, the beautiful and might woman that is Helen McCrory has died peacefully at home, surrounded by a wave of love from friends and family.”
“She died as she lived. Fearlessly. God we love her and know how lucky we are to have had her in our lives. She blazed so brightly. Go now, Little One, into the air, and thank you,” he wrote.
Helen McCrory appeared in three of the Harry Potter movies. Skyfall and The Queen are some of her other movie credits.
In one of her most popular roles till date, McCrory was cast in 2013, to play Shelby family matriarch, Polly Gray in Peaky Blinders, appearing in all five seasons of Steven Knight’s hit crime drama that have aired so far.
She was a regular across stage, TV and film since the 1990s (her first film role was in 1992’s Interview with a Vampire) and made a name for herself in U.K. theater, landing a London Evening Standard award for best actress in 2002 for Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya, and an Olivier Award nomination in 2006 for As You Like It.
