The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Ali Isa Pantami, may yet remain a cabinet member in the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari after Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information, revealed that calls for his sack were not discussed at the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.
Pantami has come under heavy fire over his alleged past support for activities of extremist groups, Al-Qaeda and Taliban.
Nigerians on social media and civil society groups have called for his immediate dismissal or resignation.
However Lai Mohammed, when asked whether the council discussed the matter and if the government was comfortable with the burden on its image, said: “I’m not going to go into the issue of whether the government is comfortable or not. I will answer your question directly. It was not discussed at the council meeting.”
