Okocha dazzles, Rufai bags yellow card for saving Gov Makinde’s penalty

The remodelled Lekan Salami Stadium in Adamasingba, Oyo State, came alive with a novelty match that saw Super Eagles legends tackle the veterans of 3SC also known as Shooting Stars.

The ex-Eagles team were mostly populated by the US 94 players such as Austin Jay Jay Okocha, Taribo West, Victor Ikpeba, Tijani Babangida, Garba Lawal, , Mutiu Adepoju, Victor Agali, Friday Ekpo, Austin Eguavoen, Peter Rufai and Ike Sorunmu

In the opposing team, Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde filed out with the likes of Kabiru Alausa, Yomi Adigun, Kola Ige and a host of other ex-3SC players.

At the blast of the whistle, the governor was awarded a quick penalty as a mark of honour.

As he took the kick, the eagle-eyed and agile Rufai punched away the ball.

Unfortunately, the match referee wasn’t impressed with his heroics as he flashed him a yellow card for stopping the goal-bound ball.

He adjudged that Rufai moved before the kick and beckoned on the blushing governor to take it again.

When the spot-kick was retaken, Makinde was all smiles as he beat the ex-super Eagles goalie.

From then on, Jay Jay Okocha thrilled the fans with some flashes of his old self as his mesmerizing dribbles kept the audience at the stadium on the edge.

In the eight minute, Babangida was brought down in the box and the referee wasted no time in awarding a penalty against Shooting.

The spot kick was taken by Okocha who scored to cancel out Gov Makinde’s goal in the 15th minute of the match.

The match ended 1-1.

No surprises there.
