The biggest night in fashion is making a bold return this year, against all odds.
Despite earlier reports that the 2021 MET Gala may be cancelled, Anna Wintour and the Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art have revealed their plans for the 2021 edition of the high fashion event.
This year’s event will not keep with the tradition of holding on the first Monday in May rather, an intimate” Met Gala will happen on September 13, dependent on any Coronavirus restrictions in place.
It will however return true to form come 2022 with the gala slated for May 2, 2022.
The theme for part one of the MET Gala is, “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion.” This will open at the museum on September 18. Part two, “In America: An Anthology of Fashion,” will open on May 5, 2022. The exhibit will close in September of 2022.
In America: A Lexicon of Fashion will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the museum’s Costume Institute and “explore a modern vocabulary of American fashion.” Part two, In America: An Anthology of Fashion, will open in the museum’s popular American Wing period rooms on May 5, 2022, and will explore American fashion, with collaborations with film directors, by “presenting narratives that relate to the complex and layered histories of those spaces.”
We cannot wait to see how it unfolds.
