Just In: CAF clears Iwobi for Lesotho match

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has cleared Super Eagles forward, Alex Iwobi, to play against Lesotho in today’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

This comes after the Everton player tested negative for COVID-19 following a second test ahead of the clash with Benin Republic Saturday, which the Eagles won 1-0.

But in an announcement on their official handles, the Nigeria Football Federation said the 24-year-old can now play against the Crocodiles of Lesotho at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos today.

The statement said, “CAF clears @alexiwobi to play today’s game against Lesotho.”

Announcing his negative report, the NFF said on Twitter, “@NGSuperEagles forward, @alexiwobi has tested negative after further COVID-19 tests were conducted.”

Meanwhile, the game against Lesotho is a deadrubber after the Eagles sealed a slot for the tourney last Saturday.
