Jamaica’s Thompson-Herah sets Olympic record to claim 100m gold

Jamaica’s Elaine Thompson-Herah has won the women’s 100m race with a record-breaking time at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Thompson-Herah finished with a new Olympic record of 10.61, beating her fellow Jamaican sprinters S. Fraser-Pryce who took silver (10.74) and S. Jackson bronze (10.76).

Africa’s only representative in the final, M. Ta Lou of Côte d’Ivoire came fourth after finishing with a 10.91 race time.

Nigeria did not participate in the finals of the race after her medal hope, Blessing Okagbare, was disqualified ahead of the semifinals for failing a drug test.
