Iwobi’s strike not enough as Everton fall to Wolves

Alex Iwobi’s goal was merely a consolation as Everton lost 2-1 to Wolverhampton Wanderers in Monday night’s Premier League game.

It was Iwobi’s first Premier League goal this season and his second goal in all competitions after he struck in a 2-1 win at Huddersfield in the Carabao Cup on August 24.

Monday’s reverse means Rafa Benitez’s side have now lost their last three Premier League games.

Wolves took the lead in the 27th minute through Max Kilman who got away from Madrid Townsend and headed down and into the far corner.

The visitors doubled their lead five minutes later through Raul Jimenez who reacted quickest to a poor back pass by Ben Godfrey and neatly chipped it over the onrushing Jordan Pickford.

After some sustained possession, Everton were rewarded thanks to Iwobi whose first time shot beat Wolves keeper.

The win saw Wolves climb to seventh on 16 points while Everton occupy 10th on 14 points.
