Italy sink Belgium to set up Spain semifinal

Italy set up a mouthwatering Euro 2020 semi-final match with Spain after beating Belgium 2-1 in Munich Friday night.

Roberto Mancini’s men rediscovered their mojo after the last 16 tussle over Austria to edge the world no I ranked side in an exhilarating clash in the Bavarian capital.

Nicolo Barella wriggled through three defenders before drilling in the opener past Thibaut Courtois to get the scoring on the way.

Moments later, Lorenzo Insigne ran from the halfway line before curling in one of the goals of the tournament from 25 yards out.

Belgium were given hope late in the first half when Giovanni di Lorenzo fouled the impressive Jeremy Doku and Romelu Lukaku scored from the spot.

Both sides had chances to score again in a breathless second half but with no goals it was the Azzurri who progressed.

Roberto Mancini’s side go up against old foe Spain at Wembley on Tuesday but they may have to do so without impressive left-back Leonardo Spinazzola, who went off on a stretcher late on with an injury.
