Ikoyi building collapse: Sanwo inaugurates probe panel, to submit report in 4 weeks

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has inaugurated members of the investigation tribunal on the Ikoyi building collapse.

The team will probe the misconduct responsible for the collapse of a 21-storey structure on 20, Gerrard Road in Ikoyi.

Sanwo-Olu on Friday signed the instrument legitimising the composition of the panel and empowering it to summon anyone and any organisation.

The governor said the people deserve to know what went wrong and even though it would not bring back the lives lost, it would help to prevent a reoccurrence.

The Lagos helmsman said the state will get the root cause of what happened, so that everyone will learn from the unfortunate incident.

“Lagosians and the world will be watching and waiting keenly, with the full expectation that the immediate and remote causes of this tragedy will be uncovered”, he said.

The panel has four weeks to complete its assignment and submit a detailed report.

So far, about 40 people are dead and a dozen injured. The developer, Femi Osibona is among the casualties.

This is as Vice-President  Yemi Osinbajo denied ownership of the property after reports went viral that the land belonged to him.
