Igboho’s supporters storm Cotonou court ahead of arraignment

Supporters of Yoruba Nation leader, Sunday Adeyemo, aka Sunday Igboho have besieged the Cour De’appal De Cotonou, Benin Republic, ahead of his arraignment on Thursday.

Igboho was arrested in the country on Monday as he tried to connect a flight to Germany.

Gathered outside the court Thursday, the Yoruba-speaking supporters demanded that Igboho should not be returned to Nigeria, saying that he had committed no offence.

This followed reports that Igboho may be arraigned today before a Court of Appeal in the Benin Republic.

The PUNCH reported that the rights activist was held by Brigade Criminelle in Cotonou after he was arrested at Cardinal Bernardin International Airport, Cotonou, Republic of Benin, with his wife on their way to Germany on Monday night.

On Wednesday, there were protests in Ibadan, Cotonou and London against Igboho’s arrest, though the protesters were later dispersed by the police.

Details later…
