Hushpuppi hires former govt lawyer Louis Shapiro

Suspected Nigerian fraudster, Ramon Abbas, popularly known as, Hushpuppi has hired top-rated criminal defence lawyer, Loius Shapiro to represent him in his criminal trial in the United States.

This comes after his former US Lawyers, Gal Pissetzky and Vicki Podberesky applied to withdraw from his case over claims he stopped communicating with them and has retained new lawyers to defend him.

Hushpuppi is currently facing fraud-related and money laundering charges in the US after he was arrested in an FBI-led sting operation in the UAE last year.

Premium Times reports that Mr Shapiro, who earned his law degree from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, began his career with the New York State Attorney General, Elliot Spitzer.

A certified criminal law specialist by the State Bar of California, Shapiro was entered as defence counsel to Hushpuppi on February 25.
