Some Taxi drivers on Monday stormed the Federal Secretariat at the country’s capital, Abuja, in protest against alleged harassment and collection of illegal levies by officials of the Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO).
The protest by the irate taxi drivers caused heavy gridlock along the road leading to the secretariat.
Union leaders are stopping other Taxi drivers and forcing passengers to drop from vehicles while drivers are being compelled to join in the protest.
The protesting drivers allege that extortion by VIO officials and other forms of harassments have made it almost impossible to work in the capital.
They are demanding an immediate end to the era of impunity.
