Fulham were on Monday night relegated from the English Premier League after a 2-0 loss at home to Burnley.
The slim hopes of Scott Parker’s side beating the drop went up in flame following first-half goals from Burnley’s Ashley Westwood and Chris Wood.
Burnley was twice denied early by Fulham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola, before they went ahead in the 35th minute when Westwood, found at the back post by Matej Vydra, slotted the ball into the net.
Sean Dyche’s men then doubled their lead a minute before the break when Wood let fly with a shot into the top corner.
The defeat left Fulham in 18th spot on 27 points, 10 behind Southampton with three games left to play, while Burnley rose from 17th to 14th on 39 points.
“I’m bitterly disappointed, I’m hurt. There’s no words that I can really put together, other than I’m gutted that we’ve not managed to be successful this year,” Fulham boss Scott Parker said after the match.
“In between both boxes this year, we’ve had our moments and looked a very, very good side. Where we’ve fallen short at times is the other side of that, and tonight again defensively, the two goals are poor goals.”
The London club joined demoted West Bromwich Albion and Sheffield United in the second-tier Championship ahead of next season.
