The Super Eagles coach, Austin Eguavoen has singled out a player for blame despite the Super Eagles emphatic showing on Tuesday, 11th of January, 2022 in the Group D encounter between Nigeria and Egypt.
Eguavoen led Nigeria to a 1- 0 defeat of Egypt in the Group D opener of the 2021 Africa Cup Of Nations played on Tuesday, 11th of January in Garoua, Cameroon.
Nevertheless, the coach called out substitute Sadiq Umar for not living up to expectations but promises to talk to the player soonest.
“For Umar, maybe first time on such a big stage, he gave me some excuses after the game and we will talk to him later,” Cerezo told the press after the match.
“Jololo”, as Umar is referred to, came in for Taiwo Awoniyi in the 70th minute in a change of formation substitution by the coach but the decision crippled the attack flow of the Super Eagles as the Almeria forward failed to make use of the balls that came his way.
The coach, however, praises the contribution of Moses Simon, who many tipped as one of the best players on the pitch during the match.
Eguavoen said: “We know the strength of our players, we know Ejuke is good from the left side, and it was impossible to substitute Simon, it was a tactical change and Ejuke had chances to finish the game”
