Champions League: Barca drop to Europa League, Liverpool, Napoli cruise

Inter Milan secured their place in the Champions League knockout stage and sent Barcelona into the Europa League with victory against Viktoria Plzen.

Barcelona’s fate was already sealed before Xavi’s side lost 3-0 to Group C winners Bayern Munich at the Nou Camp.

Substitute Romelu Lukaku marked his return from injury with a late goal as Inter comfortably secured the win that sent them to the last 16.

Edin Dzeko scored twice after Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s opener in the 4-0 win.

It means Barcelona are guaranteed to finish third and compete in Europe’s second-tier competition for the second successive season.

In the Netherlands, Super Eagles left-back, Calvin Bassey, featured for Ajax but could not help them avoid a 3-0 home defeat against Liverpool in Group A.

It was Ajax’s fourth defeat in the group after five games played.

Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez and Harvey Elliot were the scorers for the Reds.

Ajax are currently in third place on three points and has drop down to the Europa League.

As for Liverpool they have booked their place in the round of 16.

And in Italy, Victor Osimhen was benched in Napoli’s 3-0 win against Rangers.

It is five wins out of five for Napoli who will be guests to Liverpool at Anfield in their final group game.
