Champions League: Amokachi hopes for Madrid v Man City final

Former Super Eagles forward Daniel ‘The Bull’ Amokachi says he prefers to see Real Madrid take on Manchester City in the final of the UEFA Champions League.

City clinched a spot in the May 29 final after defeating Paris Saint-Germain 2-0 in Tuesday’s semi-final second-leg at the Etihad to complete a 4-1 aggregate victory.

Pep Guardiola’s men will now wait for the winner of Wednesday’s second semi-final reverse fixture between Chelsea and Real Madrid at Stamford Bridge.

In the first-leg played last week, Chelsea held Madrid to a 1-1 draw and would be hoping to qualify for their first Champions League final since 2012 when they won it.

Ahead of today’s blockbuster clash, Amokachi said he does not want to watch two English teams slug it out in the final.

“I want to see Real Madrid and Manchester City in the final,” he said in Wednesday’s edition of ‘The Bull’s Pit’ on Brila FM.

“My apologies to all Chelsea fans but I don’t want to watch two English teams in the final.”

The last time two English featured in the final of the Uefa Champions League was in 2019, when Liverpool beat Tottenham Hotspurs 2-0 in Madrid.

Chelsea have been involved in an all-English final – losing to Manchester United on penalties in 2008.

The Blues, now managed by German Thomas Tuchel, will hope for better luck when they take on 13-time champions Madrid tonight.
