Protesters in the early hours of Friday stormed Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, demanding the resignation of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).
The protest comes as the country celebrates her 61st Independence Anniversary.
The protesters, wielding large banners, made bonfires on the Dantata Bridge on the popular Airport Road, insisting that the president must be removed.
However, it wasn’t long before heavily armed policemen dispersed the protesters by firing teargas and forcing them off the streets.
There are no reports of arrests so far.
