The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd) has confirmed the appointment of Mr. Balarabe Ilelah as the new Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).
This was contained in a statement signed by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed in Abuja on Friday.
The statement was signed and made available to newsmen by Mr Segun Adeyemi, the Special Assistant to the President (Media), Office of the Minister of Information and Culture.
According to the statement, Ilelah who is a veteran broadcaster, will replace the former DG Armstrong Idachaba for a five-year tenure.
Ilelah’s appointment comes bare 24 hours after the NBC ordered social media giants WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook to obtain broadcast licenses to continue operating in the country.
The new DG will have to deal with the contentious issue of the ban on Twitter by the Buhari-led government.
