Britney Spears got candid while addressing her popular New York Times-produced documentary Framing Britney Spears in a new social media post.
“I didn’t watch the documentary but from what I did see of it I was embarrassed by the light they put me in,” the singer wrote on her Instagram, alongside a video of her dancing on Tuesday. “I cried for two weeks and well …. I still cry sometimes.” She added, “I do what I can in my own spirituality with myself to try and keep my own joy … love … and happiness!!!! Every day dancing brings me joy !!! I’m not here to be perfect … perfect is boring … I’m here to pass on kindness.”
THR says this about the documentary:
The documentary, which centers on the media’s historic treatment of Spears as well as her battle over her legal conservatorship, swiftly made an impact after it premiered on FX on Feb. 5 and began streaming on Hulu. With many female stars weighing in with their support for Spears, the documentary was tweeted about over a million times and, in its wake, Spears’ ex Justin Timberlake publicly apologized for his actions in the early 2000s after they broke up.
Spears appeared to first address Framing Britney Spears in a Feb. 10 Instagram post where she shared with readers, “Each person has their story and their take on other people’s stories !!!! We all have so many different bright beautiful lives !!! Remember, no matter what we think we know about a person’s life it is nothing compared to the actual person living behind the lens!!!!” However, Spears did not mention the documentary explicitly.
Continuing in her Instagram post, Spears said that for her sanity she danced to music by Steven Tyler: “My life has always been very speculated …watched … and judged really my whole life,” she wrote. “It takes a lot of strength to TRUST the universe with your real vulnerability cause I’ve always been so judged… insulted… and embarrassed by the media… and I still am till this day.”
