BREAKING: Super Eagles fall to CAR in Lagos

The Super Eagles of Nigeria fell to an embarrassing 1-0 defeat to the Central African Republic in a 2022 World Cup qualification match played at the Teslim Balogun in Lagos.

Nigeria, with a 100 per cent record coming into the tie, suffered a scarcely believable 1-0 loss to the Wld Dogs of CAR in one of the biggest ever upsets in African football.

Shorn of a number of starters including Wilfred Ndidi, Alex Iwobi and Oghenekaro Etebo, the Gernot Rohr-led side lacked rhythm all through and were made to pay in the dying stages of the encounter.

The stunning defeat, hours after Cape Verde pulled off an impressive 2-1 win away at Liberia, blew the group wide open with Nigeria’s lead now cut to two points after three games played.

Three-time African champions Nigeria now face a must win game against CAR in the second-leg in Douala Sunday.
