The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has zoned the national chairman’s office to the North.
Following the development, it is expected that the presidency for the 2023 general election will be zoned to the south, though the party has not announced its decision on presidency, vice presidency or other executive and legislative positions.
It is understood that these offices are outside the terms of reference of the National Convention Zoning Committee.
The decision of the PDP comes amid heated debates in the polity over power rotation with incumbent Muhammadu Buhari to relinquish power in 2023 at the expiration of his second term.
Southern Governors, in a meeting in Enugu this week, had reiterated their claim that power must return to the south in 2023.
This was however countered by Northern governors who, in a meeting in Kaduna, stated that the presidency was open to every Nigerian irrespective of region.
