Breaking: Iwobi tests positive for Covid-19, Eagles qualify for Afcon

Nigerian international Alex Iwobi has tested positive for Coronavirus and will miss today’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying tie against Benin Republic.

This comes after the tests conducted on players and officials of the Super Eagles upon their arrival at Cotonou from Lagos on Friday.

Following the result, the Everton winger, who was expected to be named in the starting line-up in Porto Novo, will also miss next Tuesday’s home clash against the Crocodiles of Lesotho.

Gernot Rohr’s side aren’t the only ones to miss a player to Covid as Benin will also be without Rodrigue kossi and Jacques Bessan after the duo tested positive for the disease.

The encounter, scheduled for the Stade Charles de Gaulle, Porto-Novo at 5pm, is however of lesser importance to the Eagles as they already qualified for the tournament in Cameroon following the 0-0 draw between Lesotho and Sierra Leone earlier today.
