Over 300 bandits armed with sophisticated weapons struck Duba community in Batsari LGA of Katsina State on Saturday, wreaking havoc.
The bandits, who were said to be carrying General Purpose Machine Guns, GPMGs, killed not fewer than twelve persons and injured scores while raiding several shops in the area.
Sources say the hoodlums started shooting sporadically into the air, after which they looted numerous shops and rustled some domestic animals belonging to the residents.
Commenting on the security breach, the police spokesman said that a joint team of security operatives are on the trail of the hoodlums as further investigation is ongoing.
A source in the ravaged community said the remains of the deceased were buried on Sunday and those injured are being attended to at the hospital.
Batsari local government area is one of the worst hit by bandits in the state that has been brought to its knees by bandits and other hoodlums.
Recently, the state governor, Aminu Masari, called on residents to own firearms as a means of defending themselves.
