Ballon d’Or: Two winners to be announced this year

The prestigious Ballon D’Or award will be held in-situ this year, after it was cancelled in 2020 because of the COVID-19 outbreak.

This year, France Football has announced that it will be handing out two winners on December 5 in Paris, as per L’Equipe – the first time this will be happening in the award’s history.

The 2019/20 season, however, was finished well after FF’s decision with Robert Lewandowski leading Bayern Munich to victories in Bundesliga, the German Cup and the Champions League with 55 goals in 47 appearances across all competitions.

Many had felt the Polish forward was denied his opportunity at the time, and it is expected he will get the nod for the 2020 edition of the award.

Meanwhile, Messi is believed to be the favourite to claim it after winning the 2021 Copa America, which is his first-ever major trophy with Argentina.
