Missing Vanguard journalist found dead

A reporter with Vanguard Newspaper, Tordue Salem, has been found dead, almost a month since his disappearance.

Salem was last seen alive around Total filling station close to the Force headquarters, Abuja, on October 13, 2021, leading to fears of his abduction. He was the National Assembly correspondent for the newspaper.

Details surrounding the recovery of his corpse remain sketchy, according to a report by the newspaper.

Some persons, including one Prince Enyenihi, have reportedly been arrested in connection with his disappearance.

According to sources, Enyenihi had contacted the deceased’s wife to demand a N100 million ransom.

“If you don’t pay, Tordue will be killed in seven days. For more information, call this number,” Enyenihi was said to have said in a text message sent to Salem’s wife.

The Abuja chapter of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (UJ) had staged a protest last month in front of the Force Headquarters demanding details about his whereabouts.

Despite the recovery of his corpse, it remains unclear why he was abducted and murdered.
