Plateau PDP Chairman, Damishi Sango, son, Kidnapped
The Plateau State Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mr. Damishi Sango has been allegedly kidnapped in Jere, along the Kaduna/Abuja expressway.
Sango, who was also a former Minister of Sports during the Obasanjo presidency, was abducted alongside his son, driver, a bigwig of the PDP in Plateau State Mr Emmanuel Mangnin, and another victim that is yet to be identified.
The incident was said to have occurred while they were in transit from Jos to Abuja in preparations for the party’s national convention scheduled for Saturday, December 9.
This has been confirmed by the state Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr John Akans, who told Channels TV that the chairman left Jos on Wednesday afternoon for the national convention when he encountered his abductors.
He explained further that the abductors abandoned the vehicle conveying the chairman and others as they went with the victims, adding that the abductors were yet to contact the former minister’s family.
“Yes, our chairman, Chief Damishi Sango, and five other persons, including his son, driver and a chieftain of PDP in Plateau State were kidnapped by unknown gunmen on Wednesday evening,” he said.
“It was the Police who called his family and intimated them of the incident because his son’s phone was seen inside the vehicle.”
Meanwhile, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Tyopev Mathias said he’d received confirmation of the incident from his counterpart in Kaduna State, adding that the police are on the trail of the abductors and will soon set the victims free.
