Weird! Buhari ‘Commissions’ Release of 500 Prisoners in Kano

In perhaps one of the weirdest achievements to be flaunted by any government in the country, the presidency on Wednesday announced that President Buhari has commissioned the release of 500 prisoners in Kano.

The presidential aide on social media, Bashir Ahmad, tweeted as President Muhammadu Buhari started a two day official visit to Kano, Nigeria’s second most populated state.

The president had been greeted by a crowd of people at the city gate as he entered Kano, undoubtedly one of his strongest support bases.

The “commissioning” of the release of the prisoners took place at the Kurmawa Central Prison in Kano.

Buhari said the release of the prisoners was part of the government’s policy to decongest prisons across the country.

The President also visited the palace of the Emir of Kano where he had nice words about the people of the state and their support for him. He boasted that if an election was to be held today he would have no problem winning.

I am overwhelmed by the sea of people I see, And by what I see today, if elections are contested I will no doubt win it.”

The President is expected to commission other infrastructure before leaving the city. One can only hope they preclude real infrastructure and nothing as out of sorts as the release of prisoners.
