Basking in their resounding victory over Cameroon in the 2018 World Cup qualifier in Uyo, top businessman, Aka Udofia has offered $20,000 dollars for each goal scored in Monday’s return leg in Yaounde.
According to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Udofia made the promise in a brief chat with the players inside the chartered ARIK Bombadier CRJ 1000 aircraft just before take-off at the Ibom International Airport, Uyo on Sunday afternoon.
He said: “I am a good friend of the NFF President, Mr Amaju Pinnick, and I am happy that I am here in time to see you guys before take-off for Yaounde.
“I watched the game against the Cameroonians here in Uyo on Friday and I am sure you have the ability to conquer them again in their own territory.” Udofia, Chief Executive Officer of Desicorn Company, announced to the applause of players and officials.
“I promise to reward you with 20,000 dollars for every goal scored in Yaounde.”
Three-time champions African champions, Nigeria, got an estimated $95,000 in cash reward after their drubbing of the Indomitable Lions and team captain John Mikel Obi has assured that they were keen on consolidating on Friday’s 4-0 victory over Cameroon in Uyo.
“We are just very keen to finish what we started. We started a job in Uyo and it is time to finish it,” Mikel said as then team landed in Yaounde.
“If we can pick the World Cup ticket by Monday, why wait any longer? We are all very confident because we know our ability and what we are ready to bring to the party.
“We are as hungry, perhaps, even more hungry than they are. It will be a tough affair but we will give our very best to take the three points.”
Nigeria will become the first African side to seal a World Cup spot if they beat Cameroon and Zambia fail to pick up maximum points in Algeria.
