MET Gala Special: Katy Perry Takes the Lead at the 2017 MET Gala

There is the red carpet season and there is the red carpet day; the one that transcends the glamour of the entire season. The MET Gala has happened again and the world of fashion and style stood still for the “First Monday in May”. The yearly fundraising gala that gathers entertainment’s creme of the crop at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City.

While 2016 celebrated “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology”, with Claire Danes’ custom Zac Posen taking the lead amidst other electrifying costume interpretations, this year’s MET Ball was dedicated to celebrating the works of Japanese Designer Rei Kawakubo, (the creative director behind the avant garde label Commes des Garcon), in a well curated exhibition titled “Rei Kawakubo/Commes des Garcon: Art of the In-Between”.

We instantly knew it was set to be a difficult theme to stylishly pull off a Kawakubo Simulus, but a handful of celebrities completely missed the essence of the themed gathering. They conveniently traded MET’s Avant Garde Fashion for Award Season’s Relatable Glamour. There was Kim Kardashian’s Vivienne Westwood dowdy look and Lupita’s not so fashionable night out. Then Katy Perry and Rihanna’s winning looks for the night.

We give you our favourite looks from the just concluded MET Gala with Katy Perry in a custom Maison Margiela by John Galliano taking the lead with her dramatic look. What’s the MET Gala without a round of theatrics.
