Perpetual Student: Dino Melaye Still at ABU Zaria for 7th Degree, Dares Magu to Arrest Him

Following his weekend claims that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was planning to cook up false allegations against him, Senator Dino Melaye is again in the ring against a familiar foe, Sahara Reporters.

The Kogi-born lawmaker in a series of tweets on Monday tackled the online newspaper for its claims that he failed to graduate from the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) in Zaria.

Sahara Reporters had claimed that Melaye failed his final year examinations at the Geology department in ABU and had bribed his way out of the higher institution.

Piqued by the allegations, Melaye dared the medium to sue him if it had proof that he was not a graduate of ABU.

Melaye also dared acting chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, to arrest him for forgery if there was any substance to the claims peddled by Sahara Reporters.

The senator was allegedly one of the lawmakers who stood against Magu’s confirmation at the national assembly when President Muhammadu Buhari forwarded his nomination as substantive head of the anti-graft agency a second time.

There were insinuations in some quarters that Melaye had financially induced some of his colleagues to ensure that Magu’s nomination was turned down.

The medium also claimed that Dino Melaye failed some courses as well as a field trip.

As part of his response to Sahara Reporters on Monday, the controversial senator claimed he was still a student at ABU and was studying for what he called his 7th degree.

He also taunted the online newspaper about its seeming futile effort to lay some criminal allegations on him in times past.

On Sunday, Melaye told newsmen that the Senate would not entertain another nomination of the EFCC acting chairman, a statement portraying him as clearly opposed to Magu’s confirmation.

For the love of the Law, Politics and Poetry, and beautiful sentences wherever I find them.
