Suspected armed robbers killed two mobile policemen and a driver while robbing a bullion van in Ondo State Wednesday evening.
The raid, which occurred in the Costain area of Ore in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, caused chaos in the area as frightened residents scampered for safety.
The attack comes less than two weeks after a bullion van was also attacked in similar fashion along the Emure-Ile axis of the state by robbers.
Eyewitnesses said that the armed robbers opened fire on the bullion van and the escort vehicle while still on motion.
Daily Post reports that the bullion van was conveying an undisclosed amount of money to Rubber Estate, Araromi Obu, Odigbo Local Government when they ran into the robbers.
The robbers were said to have carted away an undisclosed amount of cash after the attack.
The Spokesperson of the state Police Command, DSP Funmilayo Odunlami, said a policeman and the driver of the bullion van were killed in the attack.
He added that investigation had begun, while the police were already on the trail of the robbers.
Odunlami added that the remains of the deceased persons had been deposited at the morgue while those injured were already getting medical attention.
